PELAGICS, SHORE AND MIGRATORY BIRDS (ITINERARIES)

This is the most complete product of its type that operates in Peru. Birds in Peru are part of the biggest tourist corporation of Peru specialized in birdwatching. In this adventure, the most comfortable accommodation available in the route will be used; food is carefully selected to be enjoyed. Regarding transport, vehicles in good conditions will be used with professional drivers of wide experience who will be supported by professional bilingual guidance (English Spanish) expert in birds with wide knowledge of animal species, songs, distribution and behavior. Our watching trip will involve shore, migratory and brushes birds related to marine habitats along the Peruvian coast.

In Peru, there are many species of migratory and shore birds, as this country is located at a privileged area of the Neotropic. Two water masses are found in the coast, the Niño current that flows from north to south and the Humboldt Current that goes from south to north. This country is a paradise for birdwatching thanks to these sea currents displacement and location of Peru under the equatorial line.

BIRDS OF THE HIGH ANDES IN THE VOLCANIC MOUNTAIN RANGE CIRCUIT (ITINERARIES)

This fascinating route is designed to match birds in high Andes of the department of Arequipa, Lima and Junin.

In the high areas of Arequipa, we may match typical birds of these high Andes ecosystems with the volcanic peaks such as the Pichupichu, Misti and Chachani with beautiful landscapes full of llareta (compacted Azorella) that is a plant adapted to the life to big highs and grows in the floor to avoid strong winds of the highs and preserve hot. It is also full of ichu (stipa ichu) that is a grass of the Andean high used as forage for the livestock mainly of South American camels. Birdwatching in Arequipa is developed in different altitudes where representative habitats of each zone are watched. Part of the stretch in Arequipa will be developed by the road to the Juliaca city in the Puno Department, where many lakes will surprise us with many bird species.

In Lima, our hosts will be Santa Eulalia, Marcopomacocha, Junin Lake and Bosques de Zarate where we will arrive eager to watch the endemic as Mourning Sierra- Finch, Plumbeous Sierra-Finch, Great Inca-Finch, White-Bellied Cinclodes, Junin Grebe and White-cheeked Cotinga, among others.

CLOUD AND RAIN FOREST (ITINERARIES)

This tours will be completely carry out in the Southern Jungle of Peru within the Parque Nacional del Manu (Manu National Park), located in the Western of Puerto Maldonado. We will enter into this area from Cuzco. This National Park is one of the most important of the tropical parks of the world, and was declared as Biosphere World Reserve by the UNESCO in the 70’s, it houses 1000 birds species approximately, 150 species of mammal and other living beings. It is said that10% of each vegetal specie of the planet have been registered in this Park. Within the Park, we can identify different ecological floors, which go from 984 ft (300 masl) to 13120ft (4000 masl) with temperatures between 18ºC and 34ºC..

LIMA HILLS AND WETLANDS(RAMSAR SITES - CONVENTION RAMSAR IRAN 1971) (ITINERARIES)

This is a Birdwatching tour carried out in the coastal region of Lima Department.
The cool waters of the ocean current running for the coast of Peru give rise to dense winter mists that goes until the coast driven by the wind, its wets desert and hills vegetation arising in the coast of Lima. Lomas de Lachay (Lachay Hills) is the representative sample of the Peruvian coastal hills ecosystem. By the other hand, The Laguna de Paraiso (Paraiso Lagoon) is also located at the northern Lima; this is a beautiful lagoon having its source from marine waters, also feeded by the Irrigation Santa Rosa waters (Santa Rosa Irrigation), where you can watch migratory and resident bird species.

NORTHEASTERN (Tumbesian zone, restricted range and Endemics). (ITINERARIES)

Perhaps this north eastern route is one of the most fascinating routes of the world for birdwatching. It is one of the most varied zones of our planet with more than 800 bird species that can be watched in this route surrounded by wonderful landscapes where there is a great number of endemic species.

This birdwatching route crosses transversely the northern part of Peru from east to west by passing through multiple ecosystems from high tropical jungle by the famous Cloud Forest, Abra Porculla (the lowest mountain range in the Andes) to dry forests in the Region Tumbesina (Tumbes, Peruvian coast).

BIRDS OF THE FLOODED EVERGREEN FOREST, WHITE-SAND FOREST, RIVER ISLANDS AND AMAZON RIVER (ITINERARIES)

The lower Peruvian jungle is incredibly rich in terms of bird species; it is said that this zone possesses the highest ornithological diversity in the world, where one can observe more than 800 bird species. Amazingly, it is estimated that one in every 12 species that exist in the world is present here. The physical environment is characterized by humid tropical forest and low-lying terrain, between 110 and 150 m above sea level.

This astonishing variety of species is the result of the great diversity of habitats which exist in the area. Bird species are specialized to their niche, and each is associated with a distinct combination of forest and vegetation, which in turn are specialized to grow on various types of soil. For example, some species thrive in dense forest that grows on nutrient-poor soil, while others prefer other types of vegetation that grow on white sand. Other habitats include: forest that grows on nutrient-rich, well drained soils; forest that grows on soil flooded by clear water (or varzea); forest that grows on soil flooded by black water (or igapó); fluvial islands; palm, herbaceous, and arboreal swamp; and bamboo forest, among many more. Areas which offer the greatest representation of these different habitats exist in the Allpahuayo Mishana and Pacaya Samiria National Reserves, the islands of the Amazon River, and other areas surrounding the city of Iquitos. Our birdwatching tour is designed to allow the visitor to fully enjoy the observation of this enormous variety of species, as well as the magic of being in the tropical jungle alongside the mighty Amazon River.
